thrilled, I tell you

Can't wait for this to be the new first family...

I get the happy-tingles thinking about this country having a president who can explain WHY he makes certain decisions and that even when we disagree, we'll know that he thought it through. Our cute kid is wearing her Obama onesie proudly and yesterday, husband and I wore our shirts and people were high-fiving us left and right...elderly neighbors, the lady who gave me my Costco hot dog, the parking guy at school. What a great year to be alive! I took a con law class this summer and it reminded me how it was not all that long ago (in the lifetime of people reading this blog, even) that white people in mainstream America flipped out at the idea of a black classmate...a black first family was totally unfathomable. Now we are hours away and I can feel the excitement in the air! Can you??

I tear up every time I stop to think about it. Just got my "I voted" sticker and can't wait for the votes to be counted!

Oh, I feel it!

Not only that, but won't it be great to have a president who is a con law scholar? It's been way, way too long. Did you have a chance to listen to Nina Totenberg's story on Obama and the constitution last week? It's kind of awesome.

I'm a minority in my family but I voted for Obama. I was really excited when I voted. I wasn't nearly this excited last time around.

Pretty amazing. I read a great blog post by Joe Klein, which specifically was about the passing of Obama's grandmother. It's pretty amazing.

Check it out.

I was giddy when I filled in the bubble next to his name. I wanted to tell my daughter about what an amazing day this is, but she's four, and she didn't quite get it. Still! She was with me the day I voted for the first black president of the USA.

Yay!

It really has been a miraculous campaign. I hope he gets all 8 years. We need it.

I'm so happy right now, but trying to contain my glee - my poor Republican husband is not a happy camper tonight.

What an exciting campaign, and what an exciting result.

The Obama's are a beautiful first family to be, for sure. This is an historic day and the election of an African American as the President is a sign of progress in this country. I feel the excitement and think it is good to have so many people full of hope. I did not vote for Obama, but I am full of best wishes for him and prayers for him as he tackles the challenges of this day and age.

Is it okay to wave flags and say America is great? Obama thinks so, and so do I.

I LOVE America today!

I'm sorry, but did we (America)vote for him just because he's black???? Isn't that just another form of racial bias? That doesn't make me happy.

What an amazing week! Glad so many of us feel it, friends. Great articles, Azucar and Andrew.

Liz, you know I love you, but are you kidding? No. OF COURSE he didn't get elected just because he's black. The country elected him because he's qualified, he UNDERSTANDS THE EXECUTIVE'S ROLE, he gets that the government can't just keep spending imaginary money but actually has to get it from somewhere (and in that sense, is more fiscally responsible than most), he understands the Constitution, he hasn't wavered on habeas corpus or torture, and (best of all) has restored confidence in America at home and abroad. I'm not saying he's perfect, but I am saying he's qualified and awesome and has inspired millions of otherwise apathetic people to feel invested in and hopeful about this nation's future. And yes, he happens to be black. Turns out people besides old white men can lead. I have never been more delighted about the leader of the free world. And the adorable kids help, too.

Ah, the real reason sounds much better. My comment was to remind people that, although it's awesome that we are able to elect a black President in this day and age, the issue will never be eliminated if people keep focusing on it, no matter which angle you take. So instead of saying, "Hooray, we have a black President!" we should be saying, "Hooray, we have a President who (maybe) knows what he's doing!"

It's over a week later and I'm STILL celebrating. (Oh, and... uh... Hi! Found your blog from a link on Kiersten's! Not stalking, honest!)
